The project ‘Sandcastles’ by Marcelo Coelho is based upon the original concept and drawings by visual artist Vik Muniz. Created in collaboration, the project explores material representation, playing with architectural and nano-scales using a variety of pre and post-photography technologies. First, Vik drew a series of castles with the use of a camera lucida, then the techniques were developed onto a grain of sand by using a focused ion beam and electron microscope at M.I.T. University.
