Copenhagen Fashion Week: Mardou&Dean SS16

Our last show at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS16 was Oslo-based label Mardou&Dean, set in the Danish capital’s beautiful City Hall. Founded in 2007, the label started as a premium jeans line before presenting its first complete collection for Spring/Summer 2013. Now six seasons in, Mardou&Dean has refined its look, eschewing fleeting trends for garments that are sustainable, finely crafted and full of innovation.

Travel and industry were the inspiration of Mardou&Dean’s men’s and women’s SS16 collection, with Creative Director Ingrid Bredholt stating: “I am fascinated with speed, machines and journeys. I have worked with shapes influenced by the human illustration of movement and machine structures.” Plastic, denim and woven metal fabrics combined to create new shapes with a futuristic vibe, while the classic slim tailored suit was deconstructed and worn with simple t-shirts and trainers. Elements of men’s and women’s pieces blended together, creating an overall androgynous silhouette, with plastic moulded eyewear in the shape of protective goggles being the accessory of choice.
