Florals for Spring? SS18 Prints

As the days get longer and the sun shines that little bit brighter, we’re reaching for that one item that always delivers. Worn layered over a simple tee, under a chunky knit, with heels, heavy boots or a classic pair of leather sandals, the floral dress is a staple in every wardrobe. An investment for the season ahead, wear your staple style to work, to the beach, to the party.

But the floral dress isn’t the only tool in our fashion arsenal. This season, off the back of last year’s floral dress success, we’re branching out into wilder, bolder prints with a little help from pattern professionals Ganni, RIXO and Diane von Furstenberg. From statement stripes to eye catching animal prints, it’s prints galore this season on Coggles.

Bold Brights

For SS18, the perennial floral trend takes on an edgier, graphic element. Tougher, without the overly feminine connotations, Ganni’s abstract prints seem more sophisticated than their kitsch sisters. An advocate for the bolder, statement making print, Ganni hails from the city streets of Copenhagen, Denmark, were the laissez faire attitude transcends everything from the casual styling to the abundance of attitude. Let the clothes do the talking seems to be the Scandis’ motto, and whilst they wear the clothes and the clothes don’t wear them, there has to be something said about making an entrance in a loud print.

Orange is the new black. The infectious shade has taken over our hearts and our wardrobes this season with Ganni investing heavily in the hue. Hailed as the new millennial pink, the palette is set to bring us out of our literal winter blues, well and truly making the way for spring.

Vintage Florals

Florals are to spring what knitwear is to winter and emerging brand RIXO knows a thing or two about florals. Just two years old, the brand has well and truly set itself out as a pattern connoisseur. Founded by London College of Fashion alumni Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McClosky, the pair create all of their eye-catching prints at home in their London Studio.

Focussing this season on a quintessentially British floral pattern, the SS18 prints would not look out of place at a traditional garden party, yet RIXO prefers to take the traditional and add their own contemporary twist. For SS18, the brand pays homage to the Mandarin rules of tailoring with Oriental necklines, clashing patterns and oversized ruffles.

Rainbow Hues

Joyous, uplifting, mood boosting stripes are the talk of the town. A playful trend that doesn’t seem to be slowing down, rainbow stripes have shaken even the most reserved wardrobes. With Paul Smith, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg all adhering to the trend, think classic silhouettes in eye catching hues.

Perfect for that day to night, work to bar look that is oh-so needed during the summer months, diagonal stripes and asymmetric hems bring an air of sophistication to an otherwise playful look.

Animal Print

After numerous seasons of python, pony fur and everything in between, we’re rather excited to see the return of leopard print. Perhaps less associated with summer and more entrenched in a colder, winter aesthetic, the pattern is on the rise for SS18.

A print that lends itself well to the gauzy, satin silhouettes that prove so popular on balmy summer days, animal print has thrown off its habitual sexy connotation to become a staple of sophistication and elegance.
