The No-Makeup Makeup Look For Beginners

We're big advocates of 'less is more', and none more than when it comes to makeup. The fresh faced look enhances your natural features and highlights the right places for a youthful glow. In recent years we've seen the beauty industry turn their focus to the importance of skincare products alongside makeup. With the likes of anti-pollution skincare, serums, oils and clean beauty becoming buzzwords, and all for good reason. The no-makeup makeup look is being demonstrated on the daily by some of our favourite supermodels and actresses, from Kendal Jenner to Jessica Alba, but how do they do it? We're here to help you swap your 20 step beauty regime for a lighter more natural coverage. To create the perfect no-makeup makeup look and glow from within, follow these simple steps.

Creating that perfect no-makeup makeup look is going to be much easier if you're already having a good time with your skin. For your best chances of creating that glowing no-makeup makeup look, start with your skincare. If you aren't already you should be using face oils and serums in your skincare regime for targeted results and to enrich your skin with powerful ingredients. Look for products which contain hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C and rose. Make sure you're also in a good routine of double cleansing on an evening to ensure you're avoiding dirt clogging up your pores. It's also worth noting that you're never too young to start with your anti-ageing skincare routine, so we'd advise investing in a good eye cream to help smooth out fine lines and plump up skin.

#2 Moisturise and SPF

Choosing the right moisturiser for your skin type will be essential for creating the perfect base and maintaining supple and soft skin. Try to choose a moisturiser which also includes an SPF and has anti-pollution properties to help protect your skin from early signs of aging. Hydrate your skin with a moisturiser which works for your skin type, is it oily, dry or combination? Moisturise as part of the prepping stages for your no-makeup makeup look as well as on an evening after your double cleanse.

#3 Prime and glow

One of the most essential steps when creating a soft no-makeup makeup look is to use a skin primer. Primer's are the perfect tool for creating an all over smooth appearance and are a great addition to your makeup bag. Primers can not only create a poreless look without looking cakey in the way that foundations can, but when you choose a primer with an illuminating highlight within, you're skin will look extra hydrated and naturally glowing. For a lighter no makeup makeup look, choose a primer to use without foundation.

#4 Lightweight coverage and concealer

Chantecaille tinted moisturiser

Choosing a lightweight foundation and concealer when creating a subtle makeup look is key. Opting for a tinted moisturiser, BB, CC or a serum foundation will ensure you avoid any thick or full coverage. If you're naturally blessed with freckles, try to leave these areas alone for an extra youthful look.

#5 Brush your brows with a brow gel

Put down your heavy brow kits, we're trying to avoid dark and structured brows. For the natural look try to create neatly brushed and fluffy brows by using a light brow gel to brush through and keep your brows in place.

#6 Blush and bronze

Creating a naturally flushed and sun kissed look is another key element of no-makeup makeup. Take a light blush over the apples of your cheeks with an angled brush or lightly dab a small amount onto your cheek bones. Choose a water based bronzer and sweep across cheek bones and the bridge of your nose for for a natural looking contour.

#7 Curl lashes and add mascara

An important step when creating a beautiful natural look is to curl lashes and lift with mascara. The no-makeup makeup look will if not always avoid eye shadows, with the occasional exception of a champagne or skin tone addition to your eyelids. By avoiding heavy eyeliner your eyes will look much wider, more youthful and stand out more.

#8 Lips

Keeping tones muted and glossy is key when it comes to lips. Ensure you're applying lip balm throughout the day to keep your lips hydrated and add subtle rosy hues that compliment your skin tone.
