With many of us reinventing our wardrobes with bright colours and joyous dressing it is no surprise that Barbour has followed in toe, with a collection of outerwear designed by women for women. Teaming up with the Serbia-born designer Roksanda Ilinčić, Barbour International completely steps away from its usual aesthetic with a collection that dialogues between the two brands.
Roksanda noted she likes her collaborations to always be unexpected and take her down a path she wouldn’t have necessarily discovered on her own. That said, her focus for Barbour International X Roksanda was to design a protective collection of outerwear that allowed women to do their everyday life and not be restricted. Prior to her master's degree at Central St Martins in womenswear, the London-based designer studied Artictecure becoming renowned for bright colours, structures and forms collaborating previously with the likes of architect David Adjaye.
The collection is made up of 13 pieces, merging her architectural silhouettes and signature colour blocking with contrasting elements. The outerwear pieces have a streetwear-Esque aesthetic with quilted styles and flashes of bright orange and yellow detailing. The utilitarian fabrics and practicality give you a sense of protection for autumn/winter but with a quirky new take on outerwear. Incorporating Barbour International's heritage racing elements but with a contemporary twist, Roksanda has included their 45-degree angled pockets, designer for motorcyclists and a reinvented version of the iconic biker jacket.
