Coming Soon - Norse Projects SS11 - Jan 18 2011

Danish label Norse projects was established in Copenhagen in 2004 as a retail store combining the best of street, classic workwear and fashion culture. Located in the city’s Norreport district, Copenhagen’s epicentre of cool, Norse Projects quickly gained a reputation as one of Scandinavia’s best streetwear stores, providing an exclusive hand picked collection of clothing and footwear from all over the planet.

Building on this success, in 2009 founders Anton Jull, Tobia Sloth and Mikkel Groemeback unveiled their first Norse Projects collection, emphasising simple, functional basics well suited to the harsh Scandinavian winter. An instant hit with the store’s loyal customers, Norse Projects appealed to those looking for uncomplicated, unbranded, but nevertheless stylish, high-quality clothing that transcends fashion trends.

Now a few successful seasons in, Norse Projects has stayed true to this formula, with the brand’s reputation continuing to prosper as a consequence.

"I think a few brands can always be successful with just prestige. There will always be customers out there willing to pay for hype, a brand name or a logo. But Norse Projects have never been about prestige or hype. For us it's about offering a good product at reasonable prices; a key word for us has always been value for money." (Mikkel Groemeback).

The Spring/Summer 11 Norse Projects collection will be available at Coggles.com later this month.

Ferm Living - Jan 11 2011

Ferm Living started life as a graphic design agency in Aarhus, Denmark, founded by Trine Andersen in 2005. The company came to life after Trine, mostly for fun, decided to visit a clairvoyant. Trine was quite astonished when the clairvoyant saw a little bird sitting confused on a branch, not knowing which way to fly. This sight was essential for Trine’s decision to follow her dream of starting her own business. When she then founded Ferm, the little bird knew exactly where to go and now sits on top of the company logo.

Today Ferm Living’s lifestyle products are heavily influenced by the company’s graphic design origins, with graphic wallpaper and wallstickers in an array of designs – from world maps to tree branches – providing endless possibilities for creative interior design.

Available now at Coggles.com, click here to see Ferm Living's collection of wallpapers and wallstickers.

Paul SMith Naked Lady - Jan 10 2011

The Naked Lady is one of Paul Smith’s most iconic designs, originally developed by Archie Dickins, a British greeting card and later pin-up artist who was born in Balham, London in June 1907.

Archie painted private works from the 1940’s until his death in 2004 and he was in his 90’s when Paul Smith commissioned the ‘lady with phone’ which was Archie’s first commission for a fashion house. The naked lady was inspired by the Vegas girls painted onto US Airforce bomber planes to bring the pilots good luck, and also Congressmen, who would have the girls stitched and sewn inside their ties. More recently the former Prime Minister Tony Blair had the naked lady on the cuffs of his shirt.

While the ‘lady with phone’ is the most iconic design, Paul Smith selects seasonal naked ladies each season from Archie’s archive, with the cowgirl and blonde naked lady chosen for Spring/Summer 11.

Here’s a closer look at our Paul Smith naked lady accessories for Spring/Summer 11:

Coming Soon - by Malene Birger SS11 - Jan 7 2011

Malene Birger is one of Scandinavia’s preeminent fashion designers, best known for her self-named label, which since founded in 2003 has steadily grown to ‘must have’ status. Neither too dressy nor too casual, the label achieves effortless elegance and exudes good taste without ever appearing pretentious.

Classic 50’s and 60’s styles are key Malene Birger design influences but the clean and characteristically Scandinavian aesthetic is ever-present, elevating the label well above purely trend-led brands to the very best of elegant and feminine womenswear.

For Spring/Summer 11 expect relaxed tailoring in beautifully soft fabrics and a fresh colour palette of blue, white and camel for a look that’s part city chic part Hamptons cool.

The by Malene Birger Spring/Summer collection will be arriving at Coggles in early January.

A Summer Home - Jan 7 2011

A Summer Home tells the story of Pru Pope, who after several years away in New York City returns home to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to visit her ailing mother. There she uncovers stages of recognition about herself, nature, youth and the troubled relationship with her sister who stayed behind.

At just over 15 minutes long, A Summer Home is an immensely watchable short film with a captivating narrative that draws you in for more, gorgeous cinematography and a beautiful melancholic soundtrack to match.

Roberto Boccaccino - Sounds Young - Jan 6 2011

Roberto Boccaccino is a 26 year old Italian photographer currently living in Harlem, New York. In his relatively short career he has had work published by the New York Times, Lens, 8 Magazine and more, and has had work shown at exhibitions and festivals in London, Milan, Hanover and Florence.

His latest (and ongoing) project 'Sounds Young' is described as "a path through tours, festivals and indie realities, where the music could be the final reason, but probably is just the best pretext." It's some of our favourite photography that we've seen in a long time, effortlessly capturing the underground indie music scene in a natural, uncontrived manner that only the very best can achieve.

Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry - Jan 6 2011

Never Sorry is the first-ever feature length film on the iconic contemporary activist Ai Weiwei, one of China's most controversial figures.

Whether smashing millenia-old Han Dynasty urns, or confronting Chinese police over a beating he received for investigating the Sichuan earthquake deaths, or turning a Twitter-advertised dinner party into a political action event, Ai Weiwei remains fearlessly outspoken, despite considerable danger to himself. Willfully turning a blind eye to the very eye the Chinese government has relentlessly trained on him, he advocates for freedom of expression and access to information– principles all the more fragile and precious as China undergoes its remarkable internal transformation.

Beijing-based journalist and filmmaker Alison Klayman has gained unprecedented access to Ai Weiwei, documenting his often quixotic crusade. From his international gallery shows to his detailed studio practice, from scholarly interviews with peer artists and critics to intimate talks with family members, Alison offers a portrait of this transcendent cultural figure, a man whose fusion of art and activism resonates not only in his homeland of China but in the world at large.

Coming Soon - Billionaire Boys Club SS11 - Jan 4 2011

Billionaire Boys Club first surfaced in The Neptunes and N*E*R*D videos and after much hype was officially launched in 2005 as a joint venture between two of the most iconic faces of modern culture and fashion - Pharrell Williams, who has been one of previous decade’s most successful producers, musicians, artists and designers, topping both the music chart, best dressed and Forbes lists – and working with him, Japan’s Nigo whose label A Bathing Ape has reinvented modern streetwear through its desirability and limited availability for nearly 20 years.

Like the criminal social club it derives its name from, Billionaire Boys Club reflects the lavish jetset lifestyles of its designers with both a colourful and playful approach. All materials are of the highest quality and manufactured in Japan, from the selvedge denim to the technical fabrics of the outerwear, while production is limited to further dial up the exclusivity.

We’re expecting our first delivery from the Spring/Summer 11 Billionaire Boys Club collection to arrive at Coggles.com later this month so stay tuned for a closer look at the collection in the coming weeks.

Coming Soon - Ally Capellino SS11 - Jan 4 2011

Celebrating her 30th Anniversary last year (2010), Ally Capellino's beautiful bags are on their way to Coggles!

Utilitarian in style but far from cold or boring, Ally Capellino bags are made from durable fabrics like waxed cottons and the finest leather that age beautifully, while colours are typically deep and rich, be it navy, red, brown, red and so on.

But what we like most about Ally Capellino bags is that they are completely unpretentious in every way – and worth every penny – a real contrast to many of the overly hyped up ‘it’ bags currently cluttering the style pages and department stores.

We’re expecting the men’s and women’s Ally Capellino Spring/Summer 11 collections to arrive at Coggles.com early January. If you haven’t already done so, sign up to our weekly newsletter and we’ll notify you as soon as they’re in.

Kanye West - Monster - Jan 3 2011

In what looks to be another leak, Kanye West’s video for his hit single “Monster” has landed on You Tube ahead of it’s official release date. As ever, it’s difficult to say whether this is a genuine leak or just a marketing stunt, but judging b the poorly synched and very rough around the edges edit here it seems like it could be the former.

We should warn you that the content of this video is particularly explicit, but if you want to see a lot of dead, partially clothed girls, dismembered body parts and your favourite rappers doing what they do best (swearing a lot and generally trying to look hard) then go right ahead…

PRPS Spring/Summer 11 Collection - Jan 2 2011

Born into a hunting and logging family, PRPS founder Donwan Harrell has an innate understanding of functional clothing; quality and durability are of paramount importance and each and every detail on every item is constructed for a reason. These principles are fundamental to PRPS and the labels ambition to produce the finest jeans for the most discerning denim enthusiasts around the world.

This quest begins in Africa, where the perfect conditions for growing cotton can be found in Benin, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Ghana. PRPS cotton is personally selected and inspected by local farmers before being shipped to Japan, home to the world’s finest artisan denim manufacturers. Here, the cotton is woven into one-of-a-kind masterpieces on vintage Levis shuttle looms, the PRPS custom made purple selvedge a quality hallmark on all PRPS jeans.

Every detail is painstakingly produced by hand in order to replicate the aging and distressing process valued so highly by denim aficionados, while seasonal trends are ignored in recognition of the timeless quality of jeans and their ability to transcend fashion fads. Inspiration is instead taken from military, workwear and hunting apparel with additional references incorporated into the PRPS repertoire with each new collection.

We have received our first few pieces from the PRPS Spring/Summer 11 collection, including Rambler and Barracuda denim styles and a beige cotton twill chino with cream selvedge, a chambray lined coin pocket and a buttoned waistband for use with braces.

Paul Smith Rhian Sunglasses - Jan 2 2011

Paul Smith Eyewear takes its inspiration from Andy Warhol and David Bailey, who, along with other British artists, musicians and cultural figures were influential in inspiring Paul Smith’s transition to fashion at the age of 17.

Today, Sir Paul Smith is synonymous with the ‘classic with a twist’ approach to design, which permeates his numerous clothing and accessories lines. Paul Smith Eyewear typifies this approach, with classic styles such as the aviator and wayfarer updated with contemporary twists and the small details that make all the difference.

One of our favourites from the Spring/Summer 11 collection is the Rhian in Cordoba brown and coral. These wayfarer inspired sunglasses are hand crafted in Italy and feature a beautiful ‘make love not war’ inscription on the inner arm.

The sunglasses are presented in a black box containing a black leather case embossed with ‘Paul Smith Spectacles’, lined internally with black velvet and also come with a colourful printed sunglasses pouch.

Click here to take a closer look at the Rhian and here for the rest of the women’s Spring/Summer 11 Paul Smith Eyewear collection.
