Indiana

Singer/Songwriter Indiana is a recent addition to our playlist but a very welcome one. Hailing from Nottingham but with worldwide wanderlust, Indiana is tipped for stardom but began her story with BBC Introducing.

To celebrate the launch of BBC Introducing Presents, we caught up with Indiana to find out more about her album, pink hair, travel and the future.

Interview with Indiana the singer

Question: How would you describe your sound?
Answer:

Menacing synth pop with haunting vocals.

Question: You have just released your first album, could you tell us about it and the recording process behind it?
Answer:

It’s called No Romeo. It isn’t a biographical record, I draw on my own experiences when writing but I love immersing myself into roles and scenarios that I create. Mostly all of which have a dark theme.

Question: What part has BBC Introducing played in your success?
Answer:

A huge part. I owe them a lot. It’s been a huge platform for my music and they continue to support me.

Question: Can you tell us a secret?
Answer:

I might get a dog even though the landlord says I’m not allowed.

Question: Where is your favourite place in the world to play?
Answer:

I love festivals. It’s a great feeling winning over a crowd who might not know who you are too. And they are a lot of fun if you get to stick around.

Question: Where would you recommend to visit in Nottingham?
Answer:

There’s an old multi-storey car park where no one goes and if you like skating it’s so nice to ride down the levels in summer. Smooth.

Question: Have you ever played in Indiana the state?
Answer:

No but I’d love to.

Question: What are you most looking forward to in 2015?
Answer:

My headline UK tour in May.

Question: What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Answer:

More music and pink hair.

Question: Favourite album?
Answer:

Radiohead – OK computer.

Question: Favourite song?
Answer:

That’s an impossible question. So was the first question. I’ve changed my mind three times since I wrote it.

Question: Best gig you have been to?
Answer:

Outkast.

Question: Favourite food?
Answer:

Cheese.

Question: Favourite film?
Answer:

Drive.

Question: Digital or vinyl?
Answer:

Vinyl!
