Having studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, Carlos Amorales works with a broad spectrum of media. A Mexican artist who lives in Mexico City, Carlos’ exhibitions often examines contemporary Mexican culture and it’s values. One of our favourite installations of his to date, ‘Black Cloud’ (2007 & 2009), involved thousands of black paper butterflies affixed to the walls of large interiors. Looking like a huge swarm of the insects approaching, the exhibition was first created at Yvon Lambert in 2007. In 2009, an old converted baroque church called Espacio AVin played host to the paper creations.
