COGGLES SPRING / SUMMER 13
If a man is going North, he should come to us for his outfit.
This simple statement from Filson’s 1914 catalogue, 27 years after the company was founded in the then small city of Seattle, still wrings true today, with the brand still relied upon for its tough and comfortable outdoor clothing.
Initially specialising in goods to outfit the stampeders to the Klondike Gold Rush, Filson made clothes for the bitter winters of the Yukon and the demanding conditions that the miners – and men of many other professions looking to capitalize on the gold rush – required to carry out their work.
With his own mill, Filson manufactured Mackinaw clothing, Mackinaw blankets and knit goods, as well as selling boots, shoes, moccasins and sleeping bags specially designed for the frigid North. Keeping in touch with his customers, Filson improved his goods to meet their specific needs developing a reputation for honesty, quality and reputation that still stands today.
Over 100 years on and the values that underpinned the company from day one are still at the heart of everything Filson does today, equipping hunters, fisherman, engineers, explorers, miners and mariners – indeed anyone wanting to stay warm and dry in adverse climates.
