HERNO | The Italian Coat Brand You Need to Know

We may still be in the middle of summer (kind of) but it’s never too early to start building up your Autumn/Winter foundation wardrobe – and arguably your outerwear is the foundation on which it’s built. Thanks to the past few seasons’ obsession with sportswear, it’s the puffer jacket in its many styles, colours and guises that is the cover-up of the moment. One such brand is Herno, aka the first word in luxury Italian outerwear.

Herno

HERNO History

Founded in 1948 in the Lake Maggiore town of Lesa, Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana started the brand as an answer to the demand for raincoats in the area. Herno soon expanded its offering of outerwear, creating a demand for coats around the world, renowned as they were for their quality and classic yet fashion-forward Italian design.

Herno is still family-owned, run by Claudio Marenzi who has taken the brand to new heights. Decades of research and innovation have led Herno to become one of the best outerwear brands in the world, constantly introducing more high-performance and technical textiles into each of its garments and collections, with its quilted down-filled coats now iconic.

So, what can one expect from an Herno coat? Classic, streamlined styles filled with fine down sourced from Siberia and Lomellina, detachable hoods and trims and attention to detail and design that the Italians do best.

HERNO Technologies

In this regard, it is good to remember how the Herno company during the 90s had started supplying some of the biggest fashion houses. Brands such as Prada, Gucci, Armani and Louis Vuitton. This indicates the indisputable fact that Herno coat production is capable of meeting the highest quality standards.

During the 2000s the Herno returned to focus on the production of its own outerwear, becoming famous first in Italy and then throughout the world. The production of Herno coats and all the products of the brand is still made in Lesa (Italy) and has been since 1948.

Herno

Current designs borrow shapes from the company’s history of tailoring but are designed with the modern wardrobe in mind. Their style department mixes fabrics typical of active sportswear like nylon with the world of luxury fabrics like mohair, alpaca and linen.

Their strong attention to detail makes the coats instantly stand out for their couture features. A-line swing silhouettes, three-quarter sleeves, and high stand-up collars bring Herno’s timeless style to life. From capes to parkas, these luxurious garments are waterproof but breathable and light yet warm.
