Brazilian Fred D’Orey’s fashion label Totem, was initiated from D’orey’s desire to ‘Colour the World’ and portray the laidback lifestyle and pulsating street culture of Rio de Janeiro and of those he encounters in Brazil.

Fred D’Orey was born in Ipanema, Brazil and had a lucrative career as a surfer throughout the 70‘s and 80’s. In the early 90’s, D’Orey, with a strong liking for bright colours and prints, decided to put his vision into practice and start his own fashion line, he soon found himself in Bali where he quickly learnt the art of printing and dying with the help of traditional Bali Craftsmen.

In 1994, Totem was established as a Men’s beachwear collection, but with the success of the brand within the first year, there was a huge demand for the designer to launch a Womenswear collection.
