In 2008 the Sonia Rykiel House celebrated its 40th anniversary with the unveiling of a new architectural concept near the company’s headquarters on Boulevard St Germain, Paris. Forty years earlier, Sonia Rykiel founded her label and opened her first boutique on the Rue de Grenelle.

Anointed ‘Queen of Knits’ by Women’s Wear Daily in 1970, Sonia Rykiel made the pullover her signature style, with stripes, lace, rhinestones and more shaking up the bourgeois dressing of the time in favour of a new allure, now synonymous with Parisian, St Germain Style.

An iconic designer with flamboyant red hair, Sonia Rykiel launched Sonia by Sonia Rykiel in 1990, retaining the chic left-bank style of the mainline while injecting a youthful, playful Joie de vivre.
