COGGLES SPRING / SUMMER 13
Established in London, 2001, Folk founder Cathel McAteer set out to create a label that his friends would like to wear. A decade on and this humble ambition has certainly been achieved, with meticulously designed everyday casual clothes and footwear created from the simple design manifesto that still sits at the heart of the brand today.
Defined by a handcrafted aesthetic, Folk deliberately disregards seasonal fashion trends. Instead, subtle, innovative and playful details are the Folk hallmarks; splashes of colour, contrasting patchworks and corozo nut buttons are just some of the details that distinguish Folk from less considered labels, while an emphasis on fabric selection ensures the finest and most suitable materials are used for each piece – be it Alpaca from Bolivia for knitwear or Japanese double faced cotton for shirting.
This quality, attention to detail and playful design adds up to a ‘feel good factor’ when wearing Folk, with each piece, especially the labels renowned knitwear, possessing a tendency to become wardrobe favourites for those who own them.
