CHEAP MONDAY
It all began back in November 2000, when friends Orjan Andersson and Adam Friberg opened a second hand clothing store ‘Weekend’ in the Stockholm suburbs, which only opened on Saturdays and Sundays. As the store became more successful, a move to the city seemed inevitable, as did the opening of a second store, which was to open every day of the week and was thus named ‘Weekday’. With the development of the store concept, Orjan and Adam felt the need to bolster their collections with a cheap yet very fashionable denim line. Whilst impressed and enthused by supreme high-end denim brands, the Swedish duo felt that style and quality need not be compromised by lower price points.
And so in March 2004 the Cheap Monday concept was born and was quirkily named after the poorest day of the week, after you’ve blown all your cash on weekend debauchery. January 2005 saw the brand developed into a full-scale collection with distribution spreading across Sweden and abroad.
The Cheap Monday jean has since grown into a successful international brand and can be located in 28 countries and in over 1000 stores. The product theory is very simple. An unwashed, so-tight-I-can-see-your-pulse fitted stretch denim jean at an excellent price point. Stocked worldwide alongside premium denim lines the brand competes with high-end options in both attitude and quality. Indeed it has become a bit of a cult item: its characteristic logo patch that features a grinning skull with a cross turned upside down on its forehead makes every pair easily recognisable from a mile off.
At Coggles we love the fact that girls and boys alike squeeze themselves into the tightest fit possible all in the name of fashion. Cheap Mondays are definitely one of the best sellers, with customers buying their first pair and returning days later to buy up every other wash.
