The Drinkable Book

Creativity and science, contrary to popular opinion, often go hand in hand. Certainly, this is where many of the best inventions succeed and The Drinkable Book does both brilliantly. Even better, it aims at tackling a very real world issue - access to clean water. Over 884 million people struggle to find any clean drinking water every day. Enter The Drinkable Book for WaterIsLife.

the drinkable book

Created by Dr.Theresa Dankovich and DDB New York, the book contains pages coated with silver nanoparticles that kill bacteria. Acting as a filter, water poured through just one page will have 99.99% of bacteria removed, making it safe to drink and equivalent to the tap water we enjoy everyday in the first world. Each page can purify a family's drinking water for up to a month, meaning the book can provide a family with clean water for up to four years (that's 1460 days of clean water they otherwise would not have access to!).

The physical results of each page are obviously amazing and will make an immeasurable difference to so many lives. But each page also provide educational information on the benefits of lean water and the importance of hygiene, printed in food grade ink.

The killer question is: how much does it cost? Not much actually. Each page costs pennies to produce and so the Drinkable Book also provides a sustainable solution to a very difficult problem. I don't think we could love this invention any more. Just in case you need convincing further, please watch the video below for more information.
