The John Smedley presentation showcased a refreshed look at nautical style for SS15. Taking inspiration from 1930s swimwear but with colourful twists, next season sees a re-invention of the classic.
Classic nautical stripes flow through the collection but have been brought up-to-date with a rainbow colour palette and graduated dye effects. The graduation perfectly mirrors a rolling wave drifting from azure blue to near black and stands out in colour rich, rainbow pieces.
The collection hosts a range of fine gauge knitwear in colour tones spanning the spectrum, from bright yellow to burgundy, including long sleeves, short sleeves, stripes, plain, polo and (my personal favourite) knitted jogging pants. The classic fair isle knit has been re-invented and shrunk to feature varying degrees of wave shapes, a twist on the expected.
Socks and sandals are the new black this season, popping up not only in the John Smedley presentation but appearing in countless street style images and shows throughout the collections. Birkenstock are the sandal of choice, paired with a fine gauge, white knit, above the ankle sock at John Smedley.
Instantly wearable and perfectly seasonal, the ‘Sea Fever’ collection is the perfect twist on the classic.
