NIGEL CABOURN
Mallory Lined Army Jacket
Nigel Cabourn Authentic Line – Mallory Lined, mens army green linen jacket with a notched lapel and buttoned collar tab. The jacket also features three flap closure front pockets, contrast cotton covered shoulder and elbow patches, four button cuffs and a single rear vent. Internally the jacket is cotton lined and has three chest pockets and one rear buttoned pocket.
In 1924, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine headed up the Everest expedition, only half a decade after the Great War, in customised military clothing, made of British wools, cotton ventile and mountaineering tweeds, made in Scotland. Mallory wore a traditional three-piece Harris Tweed suit with giant sheepskin boots to accompany Irvine.
In 1999, 75 years after their attempt to climb Everest, Mallory’s body was discovered less than 2000ft from the peak of Everest in a preserved, frozen state. Mallory’s clothing, which many believe he successfully got to the top of Everest in, are now held by the Royal Geographical Society and are everlasting proof that this British fabric is all enduring.
The Authentic Line is a unique collection consisting of original clothes inspired by Nigel’s archival pieces from the 1940’s and 1950’s. His personal collection of vintage garments is now made up of over 3000 rare pieces. The garments are made in the UK from British fabrics in the same mills that have been manufacturing materials for the British military for the last 65 years.
